An epidemiologic investigation on Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) colonization in atopic skin diseases ZDV FRQGXFWHG DW øQ|Q 8QLYHUVLW\ 7XUJXW g]DO 0HGLFDO &HQWHU 7KH LQFLGHQFH RI XQDIIHFWHG VNLQ OHVLRQDO skin, and nasal positivity for S. aureus was examined in a total of 60 patients with atopic dermatitis and other atopic skin diseases. 50 healthy subjects were studied as controls. Normal skin, lesional skin, and nasal nostrils were colonized with S. aureus in 25.0%, 40.0%, and 41.7% of patients, respectively. In controls, the colonization rate of S. aureus was 2% in healthy skin and 16% in nasal nostrils (p<0.001). According to the results of antibiogram; vancomycine, tobramycine, sulbactam-ampicilline, and gentamycine were considered as the most effective drugs against S. aureus. The Role of Staphylococcus Aureus Types and Toxin-Producing Ability in Pediatric Atopic Dermatitis and its Association with Disease Severity

Background: The skin of patients with atopic dermatitis has a high susceptibility to staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) colonization known to produce toxins with super antigen (SAgs) activity which are a family of potent immune-stimulatory exotoxins and may aggravate AD. The aim of this research was to evaluate the ro...

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus colonization in children with atopic dermatitis.

Children with atopic dermatitis are more frequently colonized with Staphylococcus aureus than children without atopic dermatitis. However, little epidemiological data exist regarding the prevalence of methicillin-resistant S. aureus among children with atopic dermatitis. Recent studies have revealed an increasing prevalence of community-associated methicillin-resistant S. aureus among patients ...

Breastfeeding and mucosal and cutaneous colonization by Staphylococcus aureus in atopic children.

BACKGROUND Studies on the effects of breastfeeding on the development of Atopic Dermatitis (AD) have shown controversial results. The importance of this condition deserves further studies; in particular, it remains unclear whether colonization of atopic patients by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) through breastfeeding is relevant to the development of AD. OBJECTIVE To examine the potential ...

3. The role of Staphylococcus aureus in atopic eczema

Staphylococcus aureus infection plays an important role in atopic eczema (AE) because of its ability to produce virulence factors such as superantigens. Epicutaneous application of superantigens induces eczema. Superantigens also induce corticosteroid resistance, and subvert T-regulatory cell activity, thereby increasing AE severity. Increased binding of S. aureus to skin is driven by underlyin...

Skin colonization by superantigen-producing Staphylococcus aureus in Egyptian patients with atopic dermatitis and its relation to disease severity and serum interleukin-4 level.

OBJECTIVE The objective of the current study was to detect Staphylococcus aureus colonization and the presence of superantigen in atopic dermatitis (AD) in Egyptian patients, and to determine its effect on disease severity and serum interleukin (IL)-4 levels. METHODS Swabs were taken from the skin of 30 patients with AD. S. aureus isolates were screened for the presence of genes of exotoxins ...
